In any life exist countless points-of-divergence along that person's worldline. Sometimes those PODs are inserted by Fate. The branches arising at a point-of-divergence share the same past but have separate futures.
When universes branch, one from another, the new universes will share the past history of the old universes but will have unique futures. These will create alternate lifetimes.
You imaginatively travel down many paths you never physically travel down.
Remembering events provides one source of branches in the present.
A rather creative way of uncovering interesting points of divergence is to interpret your dreams, then take action on those interpretations. This will alter your trajectory though the section of the multiverse you are traveling through as you take hidden possibilities.
